Brief

Our community issue is fitness based around obesity. We are going to promote fitness at local primary schools. We are hoping to

teach them games and activities that they will enjoy and keep them fit.

We will organize to go to a primary school and arrange a time with a younger age class (year 4). We will help the kids with fitness and help stay healthy by doing fun games and sports activities. We will get sports gear from our school or arrange some from their school. Before playing sports, we will split up with our own groups and show them a presentation. We ill also talk/explain to them a bit about fitness and staying healthy and teaching them some new games before a rotating and playing the games. We will go to talk the school, possibly principal and year 4 teachers when they can be available. Afterwards, we plan to go about 2 times to keep up sports rotation and health teaching to finish schedule. Before hand, we can get prizes and a mascot to promote our work. We shall wear our P.E gear on the day. We can walk there for transport as it is quite close.

Dates

We will be going to the pigeon mountain primary twice. The first time we go will be Wednesday 22 October 10:00am - 10:45am. We will be educating their class about health and fitness. We will also show them a presentation and ask them questions about health and sports. The second time we go we will be playing fun games with the class. We will be going the second time on Thursday 23 October 09:15am - 10:00am.

First trip to Pigeon Mountain Primary

The first trip to Pigeon Mountain primary was a great success. We took a lot of questions over there and they all provided nice answers which we credited and everyone felt happy. The children co-operated with us much better then we expected, they discussed a lot on the topic with us and gave wonderful ideas, it made our job much easier. Since they are still quite young, we took along a little toy chicken to entertain them during our talking. They really enjoyed the chicken and contributed well with the discussions and questions in an exciting way with the chicken. Being there for about 40 min. they learnt some valuable things and couldn't wait to do this again. When we told them that the next time we go we would play games with them they were so excited. Generally, the day went awesome, we gave them some good tips for the future and they It was very fun and I am really looking forward to our next visit to the class.

Second trip to Pigeon Mountain Primary

The second trip to Pigeon Mountain was even better!!! We started with non-stop cricket, they really enjoyed it but some of them started to get bored so we added a few twists to the game like playing with two balls. We then played basketball and they really enjoyed that as well. Now it was their turn to teach us a game. We then learnt how to play a game called gully octopus, basically its just octopus but played in a gully which makes it more fun.

Reflection

We all had a great time educating room 2 about health and fitness. It was awesome helping the community to stay healthy and fit. Because of health problems these days, these kids will grow up and be fit and healthy with our encouragement. We gained confidence as a group and felt good talking to younger kids about a big issue. We have learnt a lot and playing physical games with them was entertaining. We feel that we made a change to the community and had a good time.

Feedback

After the trip, the students thanked us immensly, and they were very thankful. They said it was really fun, and they made it clear that we did well and taught them a lot. Playing games with them, the kids liked that a lot and felt confident and excited. They liked it a lot. Mrs Hughson, the teacher, said that we did very well and was happy that we went and taught/played with her class. She congratulated us and gave credit for future as we were good spokespeople. Overall, the teacher and the class, gave us good feedback and were very happy for us to go to their school and get involved with the kids.
